In the John E. Woods translation, as in the original, Leverkuehn's friend is Dr. Serenus Zeitblom, and not Leitblom. Unlike many of the characters in Mann's books(particularly those in supporting roles), Zeitblom's name doesn't bear a lot of extra meaning (except maybe that which is derived from 'Zeit', the German word for 'time'), so the distinction is small and really only important as far as textual accuracy.
